Reckless in Texas Texas Rodeo Book 1 edition by Kari Lynn Dell Literature Fiction eBooks

I don’t normally review books by authors I know, even a little…like Facebook friends. I’ll say straight up front that Kari Lynn Dell is a Facebook friend. I like her, but I don’t know her personally. When this book popped up on my newsfeed…free (alas, it’s no longer free) I thought I would just grab a copy and read it for fun between review books. I was not prepared for this book anymore than Joe and Violet were prepared for each other.

I will run out of adjectives long before I find a way to express how much I loved this book. Kari Lynn knows rodeo. I don’t mean she’s been to a couple, either. This woman has a deep understanding of a tough sport and the tough people who compete, the stock contractors who work their butts off, the ranchers that raise the stock and the rodeo committees who control it all. She even knows the damned buckle bunnies who swarm around the cowboys like a plague of locusts.

She knows a lot more. She knows her craft. This book is beautifully written, with great flow and flawless…draw? I’m not sure exactly how to explain it. I was going to read a couple of pages just to get a quick feel, and when I looked up the first time I was almost half way through the book. I was captured, captivated, engrossed…drawn into the life of Violet, her family…and Joe. Sigh. Joe. Even after finishing the story, just typing his name makes me catch my breath.

And it doesn’t stop. Kari Lynn knows how to place every word, every phrase just right to make you feel the sexual tension down to your curling toes. Violet and Joe are so well portrayed that you just bleed for them, wanting them to find a solution. And their problems are pretty serious. The possibility of heartbreak for both is always hanging over their heads. I ached for them.

So, aside from being Facebook friends, I am now a fangirl! I have a girl crush. I may be a stalker. I avoid cowboy books because they are mostly just…wrong. Not horrible. Just off. This book is not. It’s 100% authentic. It’s wonderful. Pick up a copy and…Enjoy!

Reckless in Texas Texas Rodeo Book 1 edition by Kari Lynn Dell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is the first book I’ve read by Kari Lynn Dell. Overall I enjoyed this story but felt at times it was too technically worded for me. Reading a little about the author though I see she was raised in the rodeo/cattle world so it makes sense. Looking back it definitely helped make sense of a world I had zero idea about.

Reckless in Texas (Texas Rodeo series book 1) features Violet Jacobs and Joe Cassidy. Violet works for her family cattle ranch and Joe is a champion bullfighter. Violet has a son because of a one night stand with an up and coming rodeo star Delon who gets his own book next (Tangled in Texas). Violet and Delon have a great secondary relationship too, being a great team for their son. Joe is looking for a change from his current employer and ends up on Violet’s ranch after switching out the job she had originally hired someone else for. They both have trust and relationship issues they bring to the ring but can they work through their problems? Together?

While I feel like the majority of the book is over my head as I know nothing about the inns and outs of rodeo rings, equipment needed, how to run a cattle ranch etc., because of that, some of those parts drag pretty long throughout the book. The rest of it, I feel, flows pretty well that even a common layman person might understand more than the in-depth part of cattle ranching. I enjoyed the relationship building parts, the cast of secondary characters brought humor and levity to the plot. I would love to read Wyatt’s book next (Fearless in Texas) or Cole’s (Tougher in Texas).

While I wasn’t completely sure, as I started this book, I would pick up another novel written by Kari Lynn Dell (or even finish this one). I feel like I’m going to give her another go. I’m invested in these characters now darn it.
3.5 stars
Violet leads a relatively uncomplicated life. She manages her parents rodeo business, acts as a pickup man during their rodeos, co-parents her son and tries to keep herself out of trouble. But, it seems trouble always finds her and now it’s in the shape of a bull fighter named Joe.
Joe has had another fight, physical this time, with his boss’s son. He’s messed up and got himself fired and now he’s leaving the only lands he’s worked in Seattle and heading to Texas to lay low and figure out how to get his job back. What he’s not planning on is Violet and having feelings for a woman who deserves more than a 1 night fling.
The challenge with Violet and Joe is that neither thinks they are deserving of love. Joe has seen more poor examples of marriage from his parents and he truly doesn’t believe he’s worthy of love. Violet knows what true love looks like but can’t seem to wrap her head around her want for a stable home and her desire for passion.
I enjoyed reading about these two and particularly enjoyed the family/friends that make up they’re circle. I’m looking forward to reading about Delon and I hope that there are books for Wyatt, Melanie and Cole, too.
