Chapter 1
A LOST TICKET THAT CHANGED HISTORY
What if the Boeing Aircraft Company had never existed in the United States of America because Boeing’s father lost his ticket to America at the dock he was to leave from in Europe? One tragic outcome would be that the Boeing B-17 and B-29 would never had been built prolonging the war and the number of men and women who would never return to their homes marrying and generating Lawyers, Teachers, Artists, Engineers and many just average folk. The club realizes this and sends a club member back to get the Boeing senior’s ticket for his historic trip. However the time traveler bumps into something that he always believed to be a piece of fiction . . . until he finds it to be as real as time travel.

Chapter 2
JACK THE RIPPER
When a time probes alerts the Time Watchers that ‘Jack The Ripper’ is up to his old tricks again and his next victim is an ancestor of one of the bodyguards of President Ronald Reagan when there was an assassination attempt on his life, the club voted to act and stop him. Twist after twist leads this club member in circles before he meets The Ripper face-to-face.

Again, I cannot stop reading this series because it is such a great idea. I am willing to overlook the one silly premise that people from 2068 would choke to death on 2013 atmosphere, but it doesn't distract too much from the story.

However, the spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation are HORRENDOUS! Judging only by this, you would think the author was in elementary school, making "C's." Previous books have had these distracting problems, but it continues to get worse. Some of the errors in this book could have been avoided if Mr. McAuley had just noticed the red squiggly lines under words when typing his documents. And in the last two books, his people continue to drink a whole city in Illinois, "Champaign." I would recommend that they switch to the bottled liquid, "champagne," as it goes down much more easily with Cuban cigars.

Also, 90 years before Gloria Steinhem, you find ladies being referred to as "Ms." This bothered me because the author usually pays attention to anachronisms. He is skilled in this, and I don't know how he let so many "Ms's" get by in this one, in the 1880s.

Because I enjoy these stories, I re-read Book 1 this week, and while it had typos, I found that it was the best-edited one in the series. My first thought is that maybe Prescott Stevens had better writing skills when he typed up the notes for the author than current president, Bill Scott, does. But the truth is probably that the author knows he has us hooked, and that we are going to continue to buy the books as long as he writes them. Mr. McAuley, I know you are not making megabucks like John Grisham, but I'll bet you've sold enough books that you could hire an editor to help clean up the text. If you ever do, I will go back and change all my "3 Star" ratings to "5 Stars." I promise.

As far as the story, these two episodes were good, and held my attention. I liked it better than the "Jesse James" story of book 7, where I never figured out why there was a need to intervene. I think he just wanted to use his Jesse James research. It was my least favorite so far. But these two were really good, and I've already started on Book 9.

I will keep buying, keep recommending, but I promise, I will also KEEP COMPLAINING until the author gets someone with at least an 8th grade education to edit his grammar, punctuation, and spelling. If he doesn't do it soon, I recommend he be sent into exile in the Appelation Mountains with a case of Champaign.

Time Travel Adventures Of The 1800 Club Book 8 eBook Robert McAuley Reviews

I have read all the 1800 club books through 8 now. I am getting more disappointed with each new book. The author spends far too much time describing the scene, for instance in this book, he described the embroidery on the linen and towels, every time the character came across another item, same description each time. It is as if the author is getting lazy and just filling with descriptions of the sane, rather than giving more depth to the story.
these novels are such fun. Light and easy to read. Nice characters. Simplistic plots.
I have read all the books in the series, so obviously I like them. The research on the various times is thorough and I really enjoyed reading all the detailed descriptions.

HOWEVER,with that said, the poor proofreading, misspelling, bad grammar and the like was very irritating.

I do recommend you read these books anyhow -- just gloss over the irritating little errors. As I recall volumes 4 and 5 were the worst for this. That's why I'm only giving 4 stars to this series.

I hope the author will look these books over carefully and correct them (or get someone to do it); in that case, this series will be a 5-star winner!!
as with all of the other adventures in this great series, time travel is looked at as fixable and how these guys go about doing so. in these two adventures there are a little story line twist that I didn't see coming but were enjoyable. A quick read and good for a light-harted fun set of stories you can read anytime.
ROBERT McAULEY HAS DONE IT AGAIN. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE HE GETS ALL OF THESE STORIES BUT, THEY ARE SO NATURAL AND BREATH TAKING. THIS IS #8 AND I AM STILL SO INTO HIS STORES OF GOING INTO THE PAST. IT GRABS YOU AND WON'T LET GO. YOU HAVE TO STAY WITH IT AND KEEP GOING FOR MORE INFORMATION. WHEN HE ADDS SOME OF OUR OWN KNOWLEDGE TO GET EVEN THOUGH YOU KNOW IT IS NOT TRUE YOU STILL BELIEVE IT. SO WHAT ARE YOU DOING GO GET HIS BOOKS ON, "TIME TRAVEL ADVENTURES OF THE 1800 CLUB".
I am finding that as the series goes on a lot of the "narrative" is tedious because it is repetitive. I would rather see a reference back to the first book, than the constant repetition explaining the club, etc. Also, the stories are getting a little ridiculous, when in the beginning they were fun and fascinating. (For example one story had an important character slipping on ice and losing his travel ticket because it flies out of his hand when he falls. They send someone back to catch the ticket before it falls in the water. What?! Wouldn't it have made more sense to keep the guy from falling in the first place since the one sent back was walking right next to him at the time! Contrived and ridiculous!) This series probably should have ended around book V or so, since the author is clearly reaching for ideas, which in and of itself shows a lack of real creativity since actual history is rife with ideas! The writing is getting sloppy and I am finding more and more typos as the series continues. How does THAT happen! Spellcheck, anyone?

I won't be reading the rest of the series. Too bad, it started out very promising, but now I find them rather mundane and irritating.
I'm going to write a generic review of the series... I have read all of the books thus far and REALLY enjoyed them. The premise is quite interesting... although I am not one that has issues with suspending disbelief. Come on, it is a time travel novel... assume that there will be some disbelief to be suspended.
The characters are good... not quite on par with some of the big name writers, but certainly well above average. Their depth could be increased, but they are 3D enough that they aren't distracting.
The plots are what make the series shine. I love history, and the author delves deeply into things that are often glossed over... like the smells and dirt... And while I will admit that I'm not an expert, the story lines are quite plausible, given that we ARE talking about traveling in time.
Overall, I would recommend EVERY book in the series. They are a lot of fun.
